FAQ

Why did I create this?

I was recently in the market for an OpenWRT capable router. I found it particularly difficult looking searching for specifications on vendor website and was not able to find a simple comparison website. I ended up creating a spreadsheet which later evolved into a primitive version of this website. As a regular reader of hackernews I encountered a similar website called diskprices.com that lists hard disk prices, which I based this website on. I figured I could make a business via the affiliate links. All the proceeds go to maintaining this site.

Where did the device specifications originate from?

The specifications were crowdsourced via the OpenWRT Table of Hardware. Due to its opensource nature, the information is not 100% accurate. I would double check with the vendor before commiting to a purchase. Please consider contributing your router specifications to OpenWRT and donating to OpenWRT.

Non OpenWRT devices?

No yet! The website only lists OpenWRT capable routers for now. I would love to support Non OpenWRT routers in the future. Just looking for a reliable data source.

There are some irrelevant products listed?

The scraper is not perfect as it relies heavily on regexes to filter the products. I am still trying to fix these listings. Certain model numbers/tags are used in other non networking equipment.

Support for other marketplaces/countries?

Currently its limited mostly to the Australian, United Kingdom and US markets. I'm Australian myself so I need to support my fellow countrymen. UK and US hold quite a large marketshare (at least in the english speaking world). Unfortunately there are API limits which prevent me from scraping other marketplaces, so I have to pick the ones with the largest marketshare. If you know of any other marketplaces with access to a product search API and/or countries you would like supported, please drop me an email.

How frequently are the products updated?

AliExpress, Newegg and Amazon listings are updated once a day. Ebay is updated twice a day. This is due to API limitations.
